Can we play it?

Yes, visitors can play seven days a week. Spey Valley doesn't publish a handicap requirement. Add it to your trip and Scotland Golf Tours requests the tee time for you.

• Access

  Spey Valley Championship Golf Course opened in July 2006 at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort, in the Cairngorms National Park. Dave Thomas designed it. Fairways lined with silver birch and Caledonian pine run beside the River Spey, with the Cairngorm mountains behind. It is a par 72 of 7,118 yards from the back tees, about 6,600 from the middle tees and 5,900 from the forward tees. The 635-yard 5th is one of the longest holes in Scotland. Spey Valley hosted the European Challenge Tour's Scottish Hydro Challenge from 2009 to 2018, and Brooks Koepka holds the course record. Macdonald Hotels & Resorts runs the course. Cancel at least 24 hours before your tee time for a refund.

• The catch

  Summer weekends cost more: from May to September, Friday to Sunday is £140 a round, against £120 Monday to Thursday. Denim isn't allowed, and a collared shirt is required. Spey Valley doesn't publish a handicap rule, buggy hire or caddies, so confirm them before you travel.

• Our tip

  Spey Valley is about 10 minutes from Boat of Garten, and the Cairngorm Golf ticket gives a round at each for £160 until 31 October 2027. Both sit just off the A9, about an hour south of Castle Stuart and Nairn, so they make a good stop between Gleneagles and the Inverness courses. Unless your group is strong, play the middle tees (about 6,600 yards). The Clubhouse bar and restaurant opens 8am–7pm daily and welcomes non-golfers.

Rates

Spey Valley doesn't publish a green fee list. These are its 2027 rates, checked 22 October 2026. 2027 high season (May–September): £120 Monday to Thursday, £140 Friday to Sunday. March, April and October 2027: £70. The rate on 22 October 2026 was £70. The Cairngorm Golf ticket gives a round at Spey Valley and a round at Boat of Garten for £160 (£80 at each course), valid until 31 October 2027; play the second round within 5 days of the first. There's no published green fee for resort guests. Resort golf breaks with dinner, bed and breakfast start at £124 per person for one night and one round (March/April prices).

2027 dates to know

• The 155th Open at St Andrews runs 11–18 July 2027. Spey Valley is not one of the four announced 2027 Final Qualifying venues.
• The Speyside 54 Hole Open, with a round each at Spey Valley, Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey, is in September 2027 (date to be confirmed). Check visitor tee times if you plan to play that week.
• On 22 October 2026, Spey Valley showed no visitor tee times on 12 and 13 May 2027.
